LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A project in southern Indiana spreads hope and cheer to those who may be having a rocky day.

The Facebook group Columbus IN Rocks started with just a few friends, and now boasts thousands of supporters.

Here's how it works: they paint simple messages or words on rocks, and hide them for people to find. Last week, the group painted 600 rocks. Those who find them are encouraged to post them on Facebook and then pay it forward.

"You don't know who's going to find your rock, but you imagine that someone is going to find it, and it's going to make their day, or that word will mean something to them," said group member Margaret Runny. "That's kind of what keeps us going."

There are similar groups in other cities, including 502Rocks! in Louisville.
