Campbellsville babysitter arrested after 2-year-old found wandering alone
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Campbellsville woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after police say the 2-year-old boy she was babysitting wandered off by himself.
According to an arrest report, the incident took place on Thursday, just before 11 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Cox Street, near North Jackson Street.
Police say a 2-year-old boy was found wandering alone down Cox Street. Officers checked several nearby homes, but were unable to find anyone who knew the child.
About 40 minutes later, at 11:30, police say 18-year-old Dezerae Hatfield came running through the parking lot of the apartment complex toward the officers who were with the boy. Police say Hatfield told them she had been babysitting the boy, when she fell asleep and he wandered off.
Child Protective Services was called and the boy was given to his mother, who arrived a short time later.
Hatfield was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. She is currently being held in the Taylor County Detention Center.
