LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was killed Thursday afternoon in a double shooting near downtown Louisville, LMPD said.

The shooting was reported just after 4 p.m. Thursday near Ninth and Breckenridge Streets.

LMPD Spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said the two shooting victims, a man and woman, were in a white Chevrolet driving on the 800 block of Breckinridge Street. After the shots were fired, the car continued forward, hitting a utility pole at Ninth and Breckinridge Streets. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A close friend of the woman, Nikeshia Malone, said she has known her since she was 6 years old.

"She was at the wrong place, wrong time,” Malone said. “She was just getting a ride.”

The coroner has not identified woman shot, but Malone said the victim was a mother to eight children.

The man was transported to University Hospital in serious condition.
