Music fans flock to Forecastle despite sweltering temperatures
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Forecastle Festival kicked off with a hot start on Friday at Waterfront Park.
Even with the scorching temperatures, crowds flooded into the event and found a variety of ways to stay cool. Music fans like Dalton Bordelon drove from out of state to see the performances and were not scared away by the forecast.
“You kind of learn how to deal with the heat," Bordelon said. "You just got to wear light clothing."
Festival organizers, including Ashley Capps with AC Entertainment, said the event is prepared to help people stay cool. The president and CEO of the production company wanted to make sure everyone knows the importance of drinking water.
“We have a lot of opportunities for people to cool off, but we always tell everyone: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate,” Capps said.
Forecastle offers free water to everyone who attends the festival with hydration stations placed throughout the venue. Fans can also bring in a water bottle or hydration packs to fill up inside.
Many spectators found the shade to cool off underneath the I-64 overpass.
For people with a few extra dollars, many of the VIP areas are air-conditioned.
Katie Marx returned the festival this year and noticed a change in the temperature.
“It’s definitely hotter than last year, and so it is a little bit much, but it’s not too bad,” Marx said.
Modest Mouse headlined the festival's opening night, a spot followed by Chris Stapleton on Saturday night and Arcade Fire on Sunday.
