LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials say an inmate at the Laurel County Detention Center will face more charges after she allegedly slapped a jailer as she was being booked into facility.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, 53-year-old Deidre May was arrested early Monday morning near London. Officers responded to a complaint that a man had pulled off the road and his vehicle had been hit by May. When police arrived, deputies saw May "in the driver seat of her vehicle with the engine running and vehicle in drive."

Officials say officers instructed May to put her vehicle in park and exit the vehicle, however she refused. May eventually put the vehicle in park, but continued to ignore orders to get out.

When May finally got out, police say officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol and determined she was under the influence.

Investigators say when she was placed under arrest, May began yelling and screaming and after a short struggle with officers, was taken into custody.

Police say there had been a domestic assault at May's home. Officials say the man left the residence, and May followed him and allegedly hit his vehicle.

According to police, as May was being booked into the Laurel County Detention Center, she allegedly smacked a female deputy jailer on the face and kicked her.

May is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, DUI and inmate assault on a correctional employee.
