Crews resume search for man who may have drowned near Greenwood boat ramp
Police say he dove into the water Tuesday afternoon to fix a snagged fishing line.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have resumed searching for a man who may have drowned in the Ohio River near the Greenwood boat ramp Tuesday afternoon.
According to Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, it happened around 2:45 p.m.
Smiley said a group of people were in a boat fishing, when one of their lines got snagged. One of the fishermen, a Hispanic man in his 30s, jumped into the water to try to untangle the line.
When he began to struggle, a second boater also jumped in to help. Both men had trouble swimming, but one was able to get back into the boat. The other man continued to struggle in the water.
Police say others in the group tossed out life jackets in an effort to save him, but he went under the water, and the other boaters lost sight of him.
The LMPD Dive Team, LMPD Third Division, the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department and EMS have been assisting in the search.
