LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Scott County, Indiana, woman is facing several felony charges after police say she stole money and prescription medications from the doctor's office where she was employed.

According to a news release from Indiana State Police, 28-year-old Courtney Brewer turned herself in Thursday afternoon.

Police say she had been employed at the office of a Scottsburg doctor. At some point, police say the doctor began to notice evidence of both financial fraud and prescription fraud. The doctor then notified Indiana State Police, who conducted an investigation that lasted nearly 10 months.

Police say they ultimately determined that Brewer had stolen approximately $80,000 from the office, as well as 10 prescriptions.

According to the news release, Brewer turned herself in after the Scott County Prosecutor's Office submitted a probable cause affidavit in Scott County Circuit Court.

Brewer is charged with corrupt business influence, fraud on a financial institution, two counts of forgery, five counts of felony theft, 12 counts of prescription forgery and six counts of misdemeanor theft. She is currently being held in the Scott County Detention Center.
