Fisherman pulled from Ohio River after 2-day search identified
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 38-year-old man has been identified as the fisherman who drowned in the Ohio River after jumping in to untangle his line.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Jose Gomar was pronounced dead after being pulled from the water near the Greenwood boat ramp Thursday. LMPD Spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said a group of people were in a boat fishing when one of their lines got snagged. Gomar jumped into the water to try to untangle the line, struggled to stay afloat and went under.
When Gomar began to struggle, a second boater also jumped in to help. Both men had trouble swimming, but one was able to get back into the boat.
Gomar's cause of death is still pending.
