LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested Friday afternoon after police say he tried to steal a woman's purse in broad daylight.

According to an arrest report, police were called to the Whiskey Kitchen at 122 West Main Street, in downtown Louisville, just before 12 p.m. on Friday.

Police say a woman told officers that 40-year-old James Broom walked up to her, wrapped her in a blanket and tried to grab her purse. Police say she then started screaming for help, and was able to break away from Broom.

At that point, security was able to apprehend Broom and keep him there until police arrived.

When officers showed up at the scene, Broom allegedly told them that he should go to jail, but would not tell officers what happened.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery.
