LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fallen Indiana officer is being honored a year after his death.

Southport police officer Aaron Allan was shot to death on July 27, 2017. Police say Allan was shot as he tried to help Jason Brown after Brown was involved in a crash.

Court documents in Marion County say Brown was dangling upside down in his car, after it overturned in a crash. Police say Allan was approaching Brown's vehicle to help, when Brown shot and killed him.

A wall will be dedicated to the officer at the Southport Police Department alongside the unveiling of the new Southport headquarters.

Southport Police Chief Tom Vaughn has mixed emotions about the memorial.

"People say, 'are you really happy about the wall?' And you are, but you're not -- because you shouldn't have to have that wall," Vaughn said.

A bench will be placed in front of the wall, so people can sit and remember Officer Allan. The new headquarters also includes a chair, bench, and wall decorations in his memory.
