European man who met teen for sex in Ky. sentenced to prison
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who traveled from Germany to Shepherdsville to have sex with an underage teen has been sentenced to prison.
Officials say 23-year-old Michael Natterer was sentenced Tuesday to spend 87 months in prison.
He was arrested on charges of engaging in the prohibited use of an electronic communications system to procure a minor or peace officer for sexual offenses, custodial interference and engaging in an unlawful transaction with a minor.
According to authorities, Natterer pleaded guilty to traveling "for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor." Parole is not an option in the federal system.
The plea agreement states that Natterer began exchanging messages with the minor in January of 2017. According to an arrest report, Natterer used an app called "Telegram," as well as Facebook, to contact a 15-year-old boy. Police say the two engaged in an Internet-based sexual relationship over the following four-and-a-half-months.
On May 30, 2017, Natterer, then 22, traveled from Germany to Shepherdsville to have sex with the teenage victim. Officials say Natter knew the victim's age.
Natterer went to a Super 8 in Shepherdsville, located at 275 Keystone Crossroads, near the interchange between Hwy. 44 and I-65. While there, police say Natterer and the teen engaged in sexual activity. Officials say Natterer conspired to keep the juvenile from telling his family members where he was.
Natterer has also been ordered to serve a five-year period of supervised release. He also agreed to be removed from the U.S. after completing his sentence as part of his plea agreement.
