LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man and a woman in Grayson, Kentucky, were arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say a small child was found wandering alone in the middle of the street for the second time in months.

It happened in Carter County, in eastern Kentucky.

The Grayson Police Department was sent to Hord Street, just off of East Main Street, just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Grayson, Kentucky, after someone saw the child.

When police arrived, they say they recognized the child from a similar incident months earlier. Officers took the child to the Town Branch Apartments, where they met with the man and woman responsible for the child during the previous incident.

Police say officers knocked on the door, and 30-year-old Arvis Curtis -- the child's stepfather -- answered the door. He allegedly told officers he had no idea the boy had left the apartment. The child's mother, 30-year-old Lawanna Bowling, was upstairs at another apartment and said she was also unaware that he had left, according to police.

Both Curtis and Bowling were arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, the abuse or neglect of a child and endangering the welfare of a minor.

They are currently being held in the Carter County Detention Center.
