Franklin County man dies while trying to prevent granddaughter's arrest
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Franklin County grandfather died while trying to keep his granddaughter from being arrested earlier this week.
According to a story on WKYT, deputies say Roy Mitchell was home Tuesday night when they asked if his granddaughter -- 19-year-old Brandy Cooper -- was inside. But Mitchell reportedly refused to cooperate and tried to stop them from arresting her.
He was put in custody, but started having breathing difficulty.
Deputies grabbed inhalers which temporarily helped Mitchell, but his condition continued to worsen. That's when deputies uncuffed him and administered CPR, but he died at the scene.
Mitchell's ex-girlfriend, Barbara Hughes, wants an investigation.
"All we want is somebody to investigate it, get to the bottom of it and get justice," Hughes said, adding: "He did resist arrest, yes he did. But he didn't deserve that. Nobody deserves that. Nobody."
Results of an autopsy haven't been released yet.
Cooper was arrested and charged with contempt of court.
