LMPD investigating 3 abduction attempts in east Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD is investigating three attempted child abductions in east Louisville.
On July 31, a 12-year-old girl walking the family dog was approached by a woman in a small, dark SUV with tinted windows in the 9300 block of Blazing Star Drive in Norton Commons.
Police say the woman told the girl her mother was busy and couldn't pick her up and asked her to get in the car. The girl refused and told her mother, who called police.
A similar incident happened on July 23 in the same neighborhood, LMPD said. In that instance, a man and woman were seen in the same vehicle.
Janel Willingham said the same thing happened to her children in June in the Saratoga Woods subdivision near Jeffersontown. She said her 10-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were playing outside in June when a car pulled over.
"A white vehicle pulled up with a man and a woman inside, and they asked my son if he wanted to take a ride" Willingham said. “"I was so terrified. I mean, this happened right in my own yard.”
Her son ran inside, the car pulled away, and Willingham called police.
"All of us in the house didn't sleep well for several weeks,” Willingham said. “I'm very paranoid about them playing outside by themselves, so that's not allowed anymore. So it took a certain freedom away from our family."
Willingham heard about the Norton Common reports and noticed the similarities.
"Through my mind, I'm like these have got to be the same people," she said. "Something is going on."
Police say it's possible the same people could be using several cars.
"It could be a different car. It could be a different SUV," said Officer David Hamblin with LMPD’s Eighth Division said. "It can go different colors. Cars can be swapped out."
If you see something suspicious where you live, police want you to call 911 right away.
"The sooner we can get cars there, the sooner we may have eyes on it, and the sooner we can stop something before it occurs,” Hamblin said.
Detectives are investigating all three reports, but they have not confirmed if they are all connected.
