FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- Raw sewage is leaking into a Frankfort neighborhood.

According to a report by WKYT, the sewage is spilling out of a manhole and into the grass in the Coldbrook subdivision. It's not far from I-64 off Evergreen Road.

Workers with the Farmdale Sanitation District say the problem was caused by a lightning strike several weeks ago that shut off their pumps.

Residents like Taylen Cox say it's a sanitation issue and it smells. They say it's been an issue for years, but it has gotten worse in the last few weeks.

Cox said the mess is impacting the lives of families in the neighborhood. "I want my daughter to play over there. You know we have a big back yard. I was going to have my daughter's birthday out here, but we can't, because it's taken over."

Crews have been working to clean up the leak.

Sanitation officials held a meeting on Thursday to address the problem. A project to fix the issue will cost more than $20,000.
