JCPS considering $9 million plan to hire its own security
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS wants to spend almost $9 million to hire its own security.
Right now, police officers from different departments are assigned to some JCPS schools. But a new resolution would get rid of those school resource officers.
Instead, JCPS would spend an extra $5 million to hire, specially train and pay for its own security officers.
SROs will remain with JCPS for the upcoming school year. If the new plan passes, the district will eliminate its contracts with LMPD and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for the 2019 school year.
The school board will take a vote at its next meeting Tuesday.
