LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The new school year is upon us, and it's important for children for start off on the right foot.

Hundreds of families attended the second annual Back to School Bash at Open Arms Children's Health on Saturday.

The pediatric health center is part of Home of the Innocents.

Children were able to get their health screenings, including dental, vision and hearing tests.

They were also given a free backpack, stuffed with school supplies and everything they need for the new school year.

"Studies show clearly that a child that is prepared to go into the school year does better, not only scholastically, but also health wise," said Paul Robinson, president and CEO of Home of the Innocents.

Home of the Innocents and Open Arms served nearly 12,000 children and families last year.
