Construction continues as Greater Clark Co. students go back to school
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) - Greater Clark Superintendent Andrew Melin gave WDRB a tour of River Valley Middle School, still under construction before school starts Wednesday.
"We have teachers that are trying to get acclimated and ready for their students. We have all kinds of construction workers here, IT staff...Just trying to get everything ready to start school on Wednesday," said Melin.
The work is part of the district's $22 million renovation plan.
Teachers and students no longer have to deal with open walls in classrooms. Garage doors can open so classrooms can collaborate.
Science teachers now have their own labs, students have new lockers, and a brand new media center replaced an old locker bay.
Charlestown Middle School is also under construction. Classrooms should be finished by fall break.
The school will have to shuffle some classrooms over the next few months, as crews finish the job.
Melin says the loudest work will be saved for after school.
"There's still gonna be more work to be done around this building. The project won't be complete until around Christmas time," said Melin.
The first day of school for Greater Clark County is Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
