JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- A family says their loved one, whom they reported missing, was found murdered in Jeffersonville.

Danielle Cornett said her sister, 29-year-old Stevie Cornett, died in her home on East Chestnut Street.

"It's just sad. It's not fair," Danielle Cornett said. "She loved everybody, and she was just so bubbly and funny."

She said Stevie Cornett went missing on July 27, and her body was found on Monday morning. She believes Stevie Cornett had been dead for days when investigators went into the house in hazmat suits.

Jeffersonville Police confirm it's a murder investigation but haven't released the victim's name. Police say they're waiting on more information before they can positively identify the victim, but police believe they know who she is and have been in contact with the family.

"Stevie is survived by her dad, her two sisters, her five nephews and one niece and all kinds of friends and family," Danielle Cornett said.

The family plans to hold a memorial walk on Sunday, Aug. 12, for Stevie Cornett at the Big Four Bridge at 6 p.m. and are asking people to wear yellow. That's the last place Danielle and Stevie saw each other. Danielle said Stevie brought along her dog, Grayson, that she loved so much.

"We just walked and just kind of sat there and enjoyed the peace and quiet," she said.

Now Stevie's family is hoping for justice.

"Everyone needs to pray that justice is served, and only God knows what really happened," Danielle Cornett said. "And we just pray that the evidence will spring forth, and that the person that did this to my sister will be caught and justice will be served."

This is the second murder in Jeffersonville in 2018. Police stress that the murder is an isolated event and isn't connected to any crime or other violence in the city.
