Former Hardin County Deputy Jailer charged with rape now facing lawsuit
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman is suing several Hardin County Jail workers after she claims she was raped in the hospital.
The woman says Deputy Jailer Stephen Renfrow raped her while she was an inmate at the Hardin County Jail, but was receiving treatment at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
Last summer, Renfrow was charged with third degree rape, but took a plea deal for a charge of sexual misconduct in June.
Renfrow was accused of giving the woman tobacco in exchange for sex in the bathroom of her room at the hospital where he was guarding her.
He was sentenced to one year in prison. He was fired from his job when he was first arrested.
The woman claims in the lawsuit that the sex was not consensual and that it happened because a deputy left her alone with Renfrow.
The lawsuit also claims another deputy and Lt. Jamie Motter discouraged the inmate from reporting the incident, blamed her for it, and told her she would get in trouble if she pursued a complaint.
She is suing for punitive and compensatory damages.
