LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man has been charged with assault and attempted murder after police say he shot his sister in Peewee Valley, Kentucky.

According to a news release from the Oldham County Police Department, the incident took place just before 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Police were sent to the 100 block of Maple Avenue, near La Grange Road, where they saw a woman walking toward the road, bleeding from her shoulder. The woman told police her brother, 62-year-old Lawrence Dean, shot her with a rifle.

Dean lives at a home at that location, but police couldn't find him that night. Instead, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Dean turned himself in at the Oldham County Police Department on Friday. He allegedly admitted to the shooting.

As a result, he was charged with first-degree assault and attempted murder. He is currently being held in the Oldham County Detention Center.
