We haven’t done darts and laurels for a while so let’s catch up.

A laurel goes out to The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Iroquois Park. Not only does this October event feature hundreds of the most artistic Jack-O-Lantern’s you’ll ever see, but it’s also the Park District Foundation’s biggest fundraiser. In the previous five years, a million dollars has been raised to help create playgrounds and a skate park.

But a dart goes to Vitalis Lanshima, the councilman who replaced Dan Johnson last spring. It seems Mr. Lanshima’s attendance at Council meetings and the amount of work he has done for his district since his appointment has been … disappointing. He basically stopped showing up weeks ago while he runs for another political race - in Nigeria.

His failure to work, however, hasn’t caused him to miss any of his $48,000 a year salary.

A final dart goes out to Governor Matt Bevin for hiring his buddy Charles Grindle to be Kentucky’s Chief Information Officer last October for $160,000 a year without doing a national search. In August, Bevin gave him a $215,000 raise shortly after he froze more than 70,000 other state wages.

I think that’s pretty bold to give an old friend $375,000 a year, making him the highest paid state CIO in the country, without even doing a search.

I’m Bill Lamb, and that’s my Point of View.
