LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)-- It's OK to cheer when Male scores, even if you're not rooting for the Bulldogs.

Senior kicker Drew Hutchinson is the guy you're pulling for.

“I was already out here kicking balls, so I might as well kick them for a reason,” Drew said.

He teamed up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and every kick the senior makes raises money for the fight against childhood cancer. People can pledge money per point he scores or make a flat donation on Hutchinson's page.

His goal, through extra points and field goals, is 55 points this season.

“Last year, I got around 50," he said. "So this year, we just estimated around 55. But we already met our goal of $1,000. We already got that. I’m at $1,500, I think, right now."

Drew got the idea at a kicking camp he attends in the summer. It hit home, because he had a teammate that fought and beat cancer.

“Male has a lot of kids that are involved in the community, and football is no different," head coach Chris Wolfe said. "We have a lot of kids that are more than just football players.”

It’s good reason to keep a closer eye on Male’s special teams this season.

“It didn’t directly affect me but it directly affected the team, and knowing that it can happen to anybody, and it happened to one of our own,” Hutchinson said.

The kickers appreciate a little attention and Drew is earning it point-by-point.
