UPDATE: Authorities identify Louisville Metro Corrections inmate who died
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has identified an inmate at Louisville Metro Corrections who passed away on Friday.
That inmate has been identified as 50-year-old Jesus Pitt. Pitt was found unresponsive in his cell early Friday morning and was pronounced dead just before 9 a.m. at University Hospital. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Saturday.
At this time, the cause of death is not known, but jail officials say in a news release that they believe the death was the result of "natural causes."
Louisville Metro Corrections Director Mark Bolton has instructed the jail's Professional Standards Unit to review the case to make sure departmental policy was followed for periodic observation and welfare checks of inmates, Durham said.
Louisville Metro Police’s Public Integrity Unit is also investigating, according to a news release release.
