LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville's annual Veterans Day Parade will close several streets downtown today.

Street closures started at 7 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m.

The most significant impact will be on Jefferson Street. It will be closed to traffic from Second Street to Roy Wilkins Boulevard (Ninth Street).

LMPD will allow cars to cross Jefferson Street until 10:30 a.m.

The 2018 parade begins at 11 a.m., which is the hour that the cease fire took effect to end WWI on November 11, 1918, on the day that became known first as Armistice Day and now as Veterans Day.

The Parade and Massing of the Colors Ceremony includes approximately 80 units and special displays to honor American veterans from all wars, active duty members of the Armed Services and their families.

This year's grand marshal is Major General John R. Evans, Jr., Commanding General U.S. Army Cadet Command Fort Knox.
