LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested Monday afternoon days after police say he punched a 3-year-old in the face, and months after he stabbed a dog in the head with a butcher knife.

According to an arrest warrant, 30-year-old Arnaz Gill became angry with his 3-year-old son on Thursday while he was at the Oak Street Food Mart at 331 East Oak Street.

That's when a witness says Gill punched the boy in the face.

The boy was taken to Norton Children's Hospital with a swollen nose and forehead. The boy's current condition is not known.

Police say the assault was captured on surveillance video. A warrant was issued for Gill's arrest.

Gill was also wanted on a separate incident.  Police say on July 4, he stabbed a dog in the head with a butcher knife while the dog was running loose in an apartment complex.

The dog survived the attack.

A warrant was issued for Gill's arrest in that case as well.

Gill was taken into custody on Monday. He's charged with first degree criminal abuse of a child, which is a felony, and second degree cruelty to animals, which is considered a misdemeanor.

He is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
