Louisville Veterans Day Parade honors those who have served
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Veterans Day Parade returned to downtown Louisville for the eighth year in a row.
This was the first year the parade marched down Jefferson Street, from 7th to 4th. The annual Veterans Day Parade welcomes all veterans, either in groups or as individuals.
Nearly 80 parade units including bands, military re-enactors, restored and modern military vehicles and equipment took part. They were accompanied by other groups -- like ROTC members and bands.
Parade goers also saw over 20 restored military vehicles, including jeeps, trucks and a tank. A thousand school children formed a Corridor of Flags to honor the veterans along the parade route.
After a hiatus of approximately 60 years, Louisville's Veterans Day Parade resumed on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2011.
It was a commemoration of the date the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
The celebration honors American veterans from all wars, active duty members of the Armed Services and their families.
