LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  The American Red Cross celebrated a move to a new location in southern Indiana on Tuesday.

The new site is at 200 East Market Street, near Wall Street, in Jeffersonville. It will serve as an operational hub to conduct disaster relief and responses in several Southern Indiana communities.

It will also serve as the site for the Red Cross Pet Therapy Team.

The Red Cross says the move is a money-saving measure.

"The Red Cross owns hundreds of buildings, and we are trying to downsize our facilities and not own them, but lease them so we don't have to use donor money on upkeep," said Jennifer Adrio of the Southern Indiana American Red Cross. "Because our work is clearly not inside buildings. It's being out with the people who need us."

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday morning.

The Southern Indiana American Red Cross serves Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties.
