Former Indiana corrections officer accused of having sex with inmate
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former Madison, Indiana, corrections officer is facing prison time after authorities say he had sexual intercourse with an inmate.
"They do believe it happened multiple times,” said Steven Sayers, communications chief at the Madison Correctional Facility.
Wednesday, police arrested Robert Jones and charged him with both sexual misconduct and official misconduct.
Jones was an officer at the Madison Correctional Facility, but also transported and supervised inmates on work details outside of the prison.
“He is what we would call a crew officer. He takes a crew of level one offenders out; they work with the Jefferson County Highway Department,” Sayers said.
In June, prison officials confronted Jones about an anonymous tip that he had engaged in sexual contact with a female inmate. Instead of answering questions, officials say he resigned.
"They went to question in back in June. And when they went to question him, he walked off the job. It didn’t look good on his part to walk off without being questioned,” Sayers said.
Jones was booked into jail Wednesday, but later posted a $2,000 cash bond and was released.
