Now It’s the Grown Ups Playing Children’s Games (4/1/08)

You know how children sometimes have fun by dressing up like grown ups? Sometimes they have a very grown up tea party, or pretend they're soldiers and play army. So why shouldn't grown ups get to act like children sometimes?

That's what the Kentucky Legislature has done in this session, and what a wonderful time they've had. No, they didn't accomplish anything to address the state's revenue shortfall, but they got to dress up like grown ups and call each other names.

They all got a chance to show who's boss too by shooting down the other guys' ideas. To be fair, they haven't gotten the cigarette tax increased, but they have been able to block the people from voting on casinos -- both of which would have increased much needed state revenue. In the process, it looks like its going to be much more expensive for Kentuckians to get a college education, but a state like ours can surely afford fewer college graduates, right?

Yes, our feckless Legislature has spent this session acting like children, puffing up and trying to act all important. Too bad they didn't do the work we sent them there to do. Of course, ultimately their failure is our failure because we elected them. Maybe next time we should be the grown ups and send a new bunch of people to Frankfort.

What do you think? Call us and let us know.

I'm Bill Lamb and that's my...Point of View.
