The University of Louisville - On a Winning Streak (6/7/07)
What a week for the University of Louisville!
First, U of L's baseball team made its mark by advancing to the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" for the first time in history. And this weekend, when they play at home in front of record crowds and a national TV audience in the next round, the University's already prominent sports profile is sure to be elevated even further.
And right on the heels of that accomplishment, U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich was named 2007's Athletic Director of the Year by Street and Smith - one more acknowledgment that his extraordinary job over the past decade is setting standards for the entire nation.
But the exciting thing is, the University's sports achievements don't overshadow the other critical contributions the school makes to this community every day. Under the dynamic leadership of James Ramsey, U of L is evolving into one of the most vital urban universities in the country. And everyone who calls Louisville home benefits immeasurably from its presence.
No city can attain "world-class" status without developing and nurturing numerous pockets of excellence. Luckily for us, the University of Louisville's commitment to total excellence couldn't be clearer, and it's great to see it back in the spotlight yet again.
