Most people who want our new arena built at the LG&E site claim that only a public project like the arena will ever get that particular area redeveloped. Because of the cleanup and many alterations that'll be necessary, no private entity would ever take on the trouble or expense, including LG&E.
Besides, they say, the Water Company site is prime real estate for private development. So prime that we've recently been told there's at least one unnamed company that's "ready to announce plans for that block."
If that's the case, why doesn't this anonymous developer announce those plans tomorrow and remove all doubt? What in the world are they waiting for?
It seems to me, if a private developer really did step forth to create something wonderful on the Water Company site, I think most people would immediately get behind the LG&E site for the arena, since it would complete a developmental triple play:
The Water Company site gets developed, the LG& E site gets cleaned up and turned into an arena, and Humana develops wherever they relocate downtown after they make way for the arena.
So please - if you're really out there and you really do have concrete plans for private redevelopment of the Water Company site, the time for secrecy is over. Let everyone know, and put this matter to rest once and for all.
