The shortage of affordable housing remains one of our nation's most persistent social problems.
Fortunately, in Louisville, we've taken positive steps to address the problem.
Since 1989, The Housing Partnership -- a nonprofit corporation that exists to create affordable housing for low- and moderate-income people -- has helped thousands of Louisville families find affordable housing - both single-family and multi-family.
We work with governmental units, private builders and local financial institutions to acquire land, develop home sites, preserve and enhance existing neighborhoods, and establish new neighborhoods.
We also work with potential homebuyers, and counsel them on how to go about securing and sustaining home ownership.
Even if you, personally, aren't affected by the shortage of affordable housing, virtually all of us know of someone who is. And the information we have to offer has the potential to keep families together so they can lead fulfilling lives.
Our website at www.housingpartnershipinc.org <http://www.housingpartnershipinc.org> contains listings of affordable homes and rental properties as well as additional information about our organization. But it'll do no good unless this information gets into the hands of those who need it most.
If you are aware of anyone who can benefit from our services, please do your good deed for today, and make sure they know about The Housing Partnership. It could make all the difference in their future.
I'm Mark Wheeler, chairman of the Housing Partnership, and that's my Point of View.
