Ford drops layoff plans for the Louisville Assembly Plant
Ford has dropped its plan to lay off nearly 600 workers at the Louisville Assembly plant next month.
Ford still plans to reduce production of the Explorer, cutting back from two shifts to one. But the company will keep the 2,000 workers through rolling weekly layoffs.
Ford said earlier it would cut the second shift at the plant. UAW Local 862 says the company may have realized it would pay more in unemployment and other benefits if it laid off the workers.
