Nearly 3,000 local children receive books

Nearly 3,000 children received a book Tuesday.  That's because of book donations from the Louisville community.

Half Price Books, the organizers of this program, presented the donation during a dedication ceremony.

They were joined by the National Center for Family Literacy, which hopes to promote reading by distributing the books donated by the community to a local partner.

Bonnie Lash Freeman of the National Center for Family Literacy called the program "wonderful."

There are hundreds of this same program in hospitals, community centers, and special needs schools across the nation.

The program has collected more than 2 million books through donations across the country.
