$45 million committed to new Veterans Hospital
$45 million has been secured for construction of a new Veterans Hospital in Louisville.
Mayor Jerry Abramson says, "This is the only commitment in the country at this point in time to be able to place additional VA hospitals in the queue for construction."
Congressman John Yarmuth secured the funds for preparation to begin construction on the VA Health Center.
Last year, Yarmuth asked President Bush to secure funding for a new VA Hospital. When that failed, Yarmuth sought his own funding through the House appropriations process.
The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee has since approved the funding. It must now be approved by the full committee before going to the House floor.
The new hospital would benefit more than 130,000 veterans.
