New fight to keep children safe

The grandmother of Cesar "Ivan" Aguilar Cano has come to Louisville from Guatemala to attend the next hearing for her grandson's suspected killer.

Saturday, she joined dozens of other volunteers to go door to door for another cause.  Christopher 2X is leading a new effort visiting the first of four public housing projects in honor of 4-year-old Cesar "Ivan" Aguilar Cano, who went missing last June.

Chris 2X with Fight Crimes Against Children says, "A year later we come back to mark the month of June as a new push."  2x brought along Cesar's grandmother and mother on the "new push" to "fight crimes against children" not just where Cesar was kidnapped outside his apartment near Churchill Downs but in poor, high-crime neighborhoods.

They're going door to door to hand out flyers just as volunteers went door to door to try to find Cesar.

Rosalina Cano, mother of murder victim says, "We're fighting, yes, to remember my son. Yes, it's very beautiful for me. It's very sad because it's going to be one year since he lost his life. But we're fighting."

Cesar's grandmother traveled from far away she says, "So there's justice for the death of the little boy."

2x says, "He is buried on a mountain 5,000 feet in elevation in her native country."  Rosalina still lives in the same apartment. The sex offender who's accused of killing Cesar lived in a yellow house just a few doors down.

Also at Saturday's rally, a little girl, who's become the face of "Fight Crimes Against Children" 4-year-old Erica Hughes was shot two years ago and lost sight in her right eye.

"So we wanted to come here today not to effect change overnight.  This is an unsafeguarded world. But one thing we can do is raise awareness around issues for people to think."

The next scheduled pre-trial hearing for Cecil New is July 10th.  His trial is scheduled for February.
