Lilly Endowment Inc. gives $50 million to Indiana disaster relief

Lilly Endowment Incorporated has given $50 million toward relief from the recent flooding and other disasters in Indiana.

The Indianapolis-based foundation says it's giving $45 million to the Indiana Association of United Ways and $2.5 million each to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

The United Ways group will put the money into a fund to provide grants for relief and recovery efforts at the county level for 2008 disasters. The endowment says eligibility likely will depend on whether a county has been declared a disaster area by the state or federal government.
