Air Guard members deployed during Pueblo Incident honored

Air Guard members deployed during the Pueblo Incident 40 years ago were honored Tuesday during Kentucky's National Guard Day.

Current and former members of the Kentucky National Guard came together at the Guard base for the special tribute.

40 years ago, the U.S. Navy spy ship Pueblo was captured off the coast of North Korea.  That capture became known as the Pueblo Incident.

Members of the deployed unit back in 1968 talked about what it was like being called up for duty.  TSgt Edwin Hornung of the KY Air National Guard (Ret.), explains, "We were a reserve unit and now all of the sudden we were regular Air Force on extended active duty, so there was a lot of, there's a learning curve to bring us up to speed, but we did well.  The guys really performed well."

Kentucky National Guard Day was established by the state legislature in 2000 to be held every year on June 24th.
