Kentucky National Guard soldiers return home from Iraq

40 soldiers from the Kentucky National Guard were welcomed home Friday by Governor Steve Beshear.

"There is no more important an occasion," the governor said at Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, "and one that I had to be at  to welcome home to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the 138th."

The 138th Fires Brigade has been in Iraq since September of 2007, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.  While there, the soldiers of the Lexington-based artillery unit provided fire control for other artillery units there.

Since September 11th, 2001, more than 10,000 members of Kentucky's Army and Air National Guard have deployed worldwide in support of the global war on terror.
