Body of Fort Knox soldier found in river

A Fort Knox soldier found dead after swimming in a river has been identified.  19-year old Joe Don Land of Colorado was found under a railroad bridge at about 11-o'clock Sunday morning.  That bridge is close to Dixie highway.

The accident happened around 4:30 Saturday in the Salt River.  That's located on the Jefferson County-Hardin County line near West Point.  Police say eight soldiers from Fort Knox were swimming in the River. Some were jumping and diving from a railroad trestle.

One soldier struggled and surfaced.  He was taken to University Hospital.  Land surfaced, but then disappeared under the water.  No word on the condition of the other soldier.  Fort Knox officials say the activity was not authorized by the military.
