Maker's Mark opens new "green" facility

Maker's Mark is leading the way among distilleries to go green.  A ribbon-cutting to celebrate the grand opening of the environmentally-friendly facility took place Tuesday.

The new facility will take the waste water used in making bourbon and transform it into biogas.  That gas will take the place of natural gas and be used to power the distillery.  Ecovation worked hand-in-hand with Maker's Mark distillery to develop the model.

Diane Creel, the CEO of Ecovation, Inc., explains, "This solution that we provided here to Maker's Mark today will help them increase production and lower greenhouse gas emissions."

The waste stream solution is the first in the bourbon industry.  It is expected to serve as a prototype for other distilleries.
