Competitive cyclists ride through Louisville

Competitive cyclists from all across the nation are riding through Louisville this week.

About 1500 cyclists ages 30 years and older and are here to get the gold metal in their age group.  The competitors include former Olympians as well as USA national champions from previous years.

The contest for medal honors include championships in the time trial, the road race, and the criterium and tandem events.  The criterium is a high-speed short course.

This isn't the first time the event has come to Louisville.  Greg Fonte with the Greater Louisville Sports Commission explains, "We have just been focused on bringing the Masters Nationals back since it left in 2003 -- the folks at USA Cycling in Colorado Springs, knowing that we could take care of the event, operate the event well, and we knew that it had great economic impact for the city and so we wanted to bring them here."

The event ends on the 6th.
