Groundbreaking for Overlook Terraces, designed as affordable housing

It will be affordable housing with a tremendous view.  Mayor Jerry Abramson used the heavy equipment to break ground on the Overlook Terraces.

When it's finished next summer, the complex will have 144 two- and three-bedroom apartments.  Amenities will include a children's playground and a splash park.

The site is on a big hill in the Auburndale neighborhood with a view of the Knobs in Indiana and the Jefferson Memorial Forest.  Developers hope to attract people with moderate incomes.

The city is contributing a million and a half dollars of the $19 million total cost of the project.
