Lower-priced homes featured at Homearama this year

Homearama starts on Saturday and this year, you'll find some lower-priced homes.  Despite a slower housing market, about half of the Homearama homes in Locust Creek have already sold.

From finishing the electrical work, to tiling the kitchen back-splash, it's a last-minute rush to get ready for Homearama, the area's showcase of high end new homes.

Homeowner Yuriko Sakaguchi calls it, "an amazing experience" to see all the suppliers with the latest trends for your house.

She estimates that buying her Homearama home came with about $50,000 in discounted upgrades.

Some years past, some Homearama houses had price tags over a million bucks.  But not this year --  the highest is around $800,000.

Chuck Kavanaugh of the Home Builders Association of Louisville says not to look at this as lowering the price as part of the housing market.  Instead, he says it's the location and the type of houses, and what builders wanted.

While only a smaller percentage of people can afford these homes, the Home Builders Association of Louisville says the overall housing market is much stronger in the area than people may think.

Kavanaugh says our housing values are going up as Louisville remains a good place to live.

In the meantime, builders are putting their best foot forward as they get ready to show off their latest designs and homebuilding trends.
