Youth soccer coach charged with attempting to lure minor for sex

A youth soccer coach is out of a job tonight and charged with attempting to lure a 14 year old girl for oral sex.

Twenty-five year old Robert Haile is free on bond tonight. He's facing charges of attempted unlawful transaction with a minor. Police say an online sting led to his arrest.

Haile has served as a soccer coach at Mockingbird Soccer Club for five years, but Wednesday marked his last day.

"We received an e-mail this afternoon about that there was an incident with one of the coaches being arrested. There weren't a lot of details around it but we understand that he's been suspended from Mockingbird Valley soccer club," said mother Susan Sanchez.

Sanchez's sons play competitive soccer at the club. She says Mockingbird coaches associated with her children have always been responsible.

"It's certainly something concerning of course as a parent of children. But I don't know exactly what the charges are but I certainly don't want to pass too much judgment without knowing the details," said Sanchez.

Detectives with Metro Police's Crimes Against Children Unit became engaged in an online chat with Haile and agreed to meet him Tuesday night at Robsion Park.

"Through the course of the investigation, through the online chatting he sent inappropriate pictures of his genitalia. They then arranged to meet," said LMPD Detective Phil Russell.

According to police, Haile had agreed to meet a girl at the park in exchange for oral sex in his car. But he arrived, he found only detectives.

Mockingbird Soccer Club declined to speak on camera but offered this statement on its Web site.

"Mr. Haile has been employed as a youth soccer coach at Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club for approximately five years. In that time, we have never fielded a single complaint regarding improper behavior involving Mr. Haile."

The statement continues by saying:

"The charges against Mr. Haile are extremely serious and will be dealt with by the authorities."

The club says it has background checks and found that Haile had only a speeding ticket on his record.

Haile has no other criminal background. He's due in district court on July 14. Our attempts tonight to reach Haile were unsuccessful.
