Hailey Goranflo doing well as treatment in China begins

A five-year-old Shepherdsville girl is said to be doing well on her third day in China for treatment of an incurable disease.

Hailey Goranflo and her brother Carter suffer from Batten Disease.  The disorder can cause seizures, loss of motor skills and even death.

Hailey and her mother left for China this week to undergo a series of controversial stem cell implants.  Carter is expected to treated later.

The latest update on a website devoted to the two children's fight against Batten Disease says Hailey is doing well on the third day of her trip to China.  Neurologists examined her, and the site says, "Hailey is the worst Battens child they have treated, but they did say that they think they can help her."

The site did report that an IV caused Hailey's foot and leg to become swollen, which was very painful until she was given pain medication.
