10 arrested in connection with snake-smuggling ring

Ten people have been arrested in connection with a snake-smuggling ring.  Kentucky State Fish and Wildlife officials say the people were smuggling exotic snakes.

Officials confiscated more than 100 poisonous snakes and one alligator.  Copperhead snakes and cobras were among them.  Some were sold for up to $450.

Officials say the suspects sold more than 200 illegal snakes in last two years.  The suspects face 700 misdemeanor charges.

Lieutenant Richard Skaggs, Kentucky Conservation Officer says, "We did find that people were buying and selling a lot of inherently dangerous wildlife."

The confiscated snakes and alligator were taken to the Kentucky Reptile Zoo.
