Summer break is over for students at six Jefferson County Public Schools.

Tuesday was the first day back for schools that operate on a year-round calendar, such as Breckinridge-Franklin Elementary on Payne Street.

Students and teachers were eager to get back in the classroom.  On a year-round schedule, students go to school in cycles of 45 days broken up by two-week intercessions.

Two schools stopped the year-round schedule this year.  Engelhard Elementary and Portland Elementary schools return to the traditional calendar this school year.
