Two-alarm fire in Lexington sends smoke covering parts of downtown

Firefighters in Lexington are battling a two-alarm blaze in the city's downtown area and the mayor has ordered an evacuation of nearby city blocks.

Firefighters are battling the blaze on Jefferson Street at Star Light and Magic Inc.

Mayor Jim Newberry is calling for an evacuation of city blocks bounded by Third, Second, Jefferson and Miller streets. Smoke is visible in downtown Lexington.

Newberry says in a statement that officials are being "extremely cautious" because there may be hazardous materials at the business. According to Star Light's website, the business housespyrotechnics used by magicians.

Lt. Mike Farmer with Lexington's Fire and Emergency Services says there are no reports of serious injuries, but one person has been treated for smoke inhalation.
